Records Retention Schedules

A Records Retention Schedule (RRS) is a policy that is established to determine how long records must be retained before they are disposed of.

Nearly all organizations—governmental, public service, law firms, and businesses engaged in highly regulated industries like finance, healthcare, or pharmaceuticals—often have Records Retention Schedules mandated for them by industry associations or governmental entities which oversee their legal and ethical conduct.

Records retention guidelines are normally based on the type of record, its value, the industry it is associated with, and any compliance mandates associated with that industry. A Records Retention Schedule also includes the point at which the data can be legally destroyed.

The Records Retention Schedules you establish with CDS help your organization not only enjoy more cost-effective records management, convenient records retrieval, but also the confidence that your disposal protocols are compliant and legally defensible.
